The Boston Red Sox have agreed to hire Tampa Bay Rays Jerseys China executive Chaim Bloom as their new head of baseball operations, a source confirmed to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Terms were not available. The New York Post was first to report the Red Sox would hire the Rays’ senior vice president of baseball operations.

Bloom, 36, will succeed Dave Dombrowski, whom the Red Sox fired as president of baseball operations in September, less than a year after winning the 2018 World Series. Boston failed to make the playoffs this season, finishing 84-78, 19 games behind the American League East champion Yankees.

Bloom had spent 15 years with the Rays in capacities including minor league operations, player development, contract negotiations, salary arbitration and international scouting.

He has operated in a front office unlike Boston’s in that the Rays have a low budget and remain competitive. This season, they had the lowest payroll on opening day at $49.08 million, and the Red Sox had the highest at $187.23 million.

Late in September, Red Sox owners John Henry and Tom Werner said at a news conference that they intended to make major cuts to the payroll to get under the luxury tax threshold next season, saying they fired Dombrowski because of differing opinions on how to build for the future.

It’s a crucial offseason for the Red Sox, who need to decide what to do about 2018 MVP Mookie Betts Jersey China, who will be a free agent after next season, and J.D. Martinez Jersey China, who can opt out of his $23.75 million deal five days after the World Series, as well as other players on expiring contracts.

Bloom is a Philadelphia native and attended Yale University, graduating in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in classics.

WASHINGTON — MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said that the league office would continue conversations with the Houston Astros regarding the incident last weekend that resulted in the termination of a member of the team’s front office.

Speaking before Game 3 of the World Series after a photo session with Cleveland Indians Jerseys China pitcher Carlos Carrasco Jersey China, this season’s recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award, Manfred declined to characterize the nature of those conversations.

“I will say that there are a variety of issues,” Manfred said. “I’m not going to narrow the statement. We’re going to continue to review the situation, have conversations with [Astros owner Jim] Crane. It’s one thing to comment and investigate for 24 hours on a specific incident.”

The incident in question came to light after a report was published earlier this week by Sports Illustrated’s Stephanie Apstein. According to the report, during the celebration in the Astros clubhouse after Houston clinched the American League Championship Series on Saturday, assistant general manager Brandon Taubman turned to a group of female reporters — including one wearing a purple domestic violence awareness bracelet — and repeatedly yelled, “Thank God we got [Roberto] Osuna! I’m so f—ing glad we got Osuna!”

Last season, Osuna served a 75-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s domestic violence policy, stemming from an incident while he was a member of the Toronto Blue Jays Jerseys China.

The Astros initially called the report “misleading and completely irresponsible” and accused SI of trying to “fabricate a story where one does not exist.” Taubman later apologized for his language but said his comments were misinterpreted. After a league investigation into the allegations outlined in the report was completed, the Astros announced on Thursday that Taubman’s employment with the team had been terminated.

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow met Friday with Apstein, who requested a retraction of the team’s initial statement. Luhnow acknowledged the request but had not yet issued a retraction.

Manfred declined to say whether more disciplinary actions might follow.

“I didn’t say that there is going to be further action, but there are things we want to talk to the Astros about, continuing to have those conversations and gather information,” Manfred said. “I think it was important that they recognize that they had made a mistake. They issued an apology and they dealt with the individual situation in a decisive way, and those are all positives.”

Manfred said the league would continue its inquiry into the incident and its fallout after the World Series concludes. The Washington Nationals lead the series 2-0 entering Game 3 at Nationals Park on Friday night. Manfred added that the league would address the matter publicly when the conversations he referenced are finished and any further decisions related to the matter are made.

Manfred emphasized that there was no timeline on the next phase of the inquiry, or even what the scope of the inquiry might be.

“I think we’ve had pretty good record of transparency when we make decisions,” Manfred said. “So I think when we get to the point when we have something more to say, it’ll be public. Again, I don’t want the expectation that this piece of it is going to be as quick as the last piece, because there is more to it.”

CHICAGO — The Chicago Cubs Jerseys China are hiring David Ross to be their new manager, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation. The official announcement is expected to come on Thursday.

Ross, 42, beat out five other candidates to replace Joe Maddon, who was hired by the Angels. Ross played under Maddon in 2015 and 2016, helping the Cubs to a World Series title before becoming a member of the team’s front office and an ESPN baseball analyst.

“I’ve always looked at Rossy as a coach when he played here,” Bryant said in late September. “Yeah, it was goofy, it was fun, it was energetic, but when he needed to tell you something, he let you hear it. From the very get-go, I felt like this guy will be a manager someday.”

“I think it’s one of the best jobs in baseball,” Ross said recently. “I’ve got a lot of close ties with those guys. … I think my heart is drawn to that dugout a little bit.”

Other candidates — including Cubs first-base coach Will Venable, bench coach Mark Loretta, former Phillies manager Gabe Kapler, former Yankees manager Joe Girardi and Astros bench coach Joe Espada — have been informed of the decision. Espada was called in for a second interview on Sunday, which included a mock news conference, according to a source. Ross did the same on Monday, and he performed as expected: extremely well, the source said.

Ross was a Game 7 hero for the Cubs in 2016, hitting a World Series home run before calling it quits on his career. He also won a World Series with the Boston Red Sox Jerseys China and played for the Los Angeles Dodgers Jerseys China, Pittsburgh Pirates Jerseys China, San Diego Padres Jerseys China, Cincinnati Reds Jerseys China and Atlanta Braves Jerseys China.

HOUSTON — George Springer set a record in Game 1 with a home run in his fifth consecutive World Series Jerseys China game, but in the wake of the Houston Astros Jerseys China‘ 5-4 loss to the Washington Nationals Jerseys China, his failure to sprint out of the batter’s box in the eighth inning became a hot topic.

With the Astros down 5-3 and Kyle Tucker on second base with one out, Springer launched a long fly ball into the right-center-field corner. Springer initially watched the ball and then hopped six or seven times on his way down the first-base line. He didn’t run hard until he reached first base.

Nationals right fielder Adam Eaton made a leaping attempt at the ball, but it bounced off the heel of his glove and was retrieved by center fielder Victor Robles.

Tucker, who went back to second base to tag up, scored on the play, but Springer had a double instead of a potential triple. The next batter, Jose Altuve, flew out to right field, and Springer might have scored if he had been on third base. Instead, he was left stranded when Michael Brantley then lined out to left field.

In the initial aftermath of the game, Springer said he couldn’t have made third base on the play even if he had run hard.

“I was watching [Eaton] the whole time,” Springer said. “That’s one of those things where I don’t want to necessarily run as fast as I can because for some reason, if [Tucker] tags or whatever the case and I run by him, it’s not good. So I was just kind of watching the outfielder.”

He added that he wasn’t kicking himself for not making it to third.

“I can’t go to third right there because the guy on second had gone back to tag,” he said. “If I had gone to third, I’m out.”

Before Game 2, however, Astros manager AJ Hinch said Springer called him later to talk about the play, surprised that it had become a focal point of discussion and wanting Hinch’s reaction.

“I felt like it was an honest mistake,” Hinch said, adding that he wasn’t going to dwell on it.

“I know how hard he plays,” Hinch said of Springer. “I know he leaves it all out on the field. I talked to him late last night on the phone. He called me. He initiated the conversation. We followed up today with a personal meeting and walked through the different scenarios. I’m not sure if the play ends any differently, but everybody understands the look when it’s a late entry into a play like that.”

Still, Hinch admitted that it wasn’t the best of baserunning plays.

“I think George got caught up in the moment of the play, in the anxiousness to see if the ball was leaving,” he said. “It wasn’t an egregious showmanship kind of pimp job, as they call it. It was a delay in reading the play correctly to where once he started running, he ran into Tucker, who was coming back to tag up because Eaton looked like he was camped underneath the ball.”
